I have had issues where I would run GTF for days if not weeks for IOS or VTAM type issues.
So I have no problem with a GTF task staying up for long periods. What I have found is a lot of shops use the IBM names instead of create LPAR specific names for TRACE or unique names for the event that is trying to be trapped. Though it may also be possible that this shop is trying to run multiple GTF Tasks at the same time on the same LPAR. Which, as I recall, still cannot be done. Only one GTF to rule them all.
