For some types of what I'll all 'radical' changes, we've found it necessary to implement in two steps. The first step deletes the old stuff. The second step adds the new stuff back where the old stuff used to be. Each step requires full h/w and s/w activation.
If instead you try to transform one kind of gizmo into another in a single step, you can get weird results. -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of John D Levine Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2014 12:44 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: HCD Question Hi Xu, you did not say whether the cabling has moved from the DASD box to the Tape controller. However, a POR is not necessary to implement this change. Perhaps you can post the messages from your CF command or VARY command. John L. Any DOES NOT EXIST/NOT IN SYSTEM type messages? Also, add new CU/device for the TAPE box. However, when I perform h/w Activate from one lpar with new IODF, and SOFT activate in every LPAR... I still got s/w & h/w HSA token in-sync.. And, the re-configured 2 FCs are not able to ONLINE porperly with the attached devices... I wonder if I miss some operations? or actually POR is necessary for such case.... ?
