I did exactly that at AEP, merging the data from multiple sysplexes into a single "one pane of glass" view. Everything passed between the LPARs/sysplexes with TCP/IP, the data stored in a Derby database. The vast majority of the process ran inside a JVM so the GCP impact was minimal. I was pretty happy with it. Alas, now that I've moved on that code seems destined to die. (I tried to get them to release it as open source so I could continue to support it for them, but they weren't interested in that.) I did write a CMG paper in 2007 about an earlier, more limited version, of the process.
