I'd be very skeptical of any hardware issues, particularly when only one LPAR was impacted, particularly when the IBM engineer ruled out hardware issues.
For the record, though, on a z10 machine a serious system memory failure could potentially "zap" one LPAR -- the LPAR using the part of system memory that failed -- while the others continue operating. But that (extremely rare) failure scenario would show up in the machine records, with "Call Home" triggered (if configured) and no particular mystery. And the system would soldier on as best it can, perhaps with a fraction of system memory no longer available. On the z196/z114 and subsequent models RAIM (Redundant Array of Independent Memory) provides even greater memory failure isolation than that available on the z10. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy Sipples IT Architect Executive, Industry Solutions, IBM z Systems, AP/GCG/MEA E-Mail: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
