... Is the CLIENT data set processed by RECEIVE FROMNTS?

Yes, on the chance SMP/E needs to use Java to calculate SHA-1 hash
values when ICSF is not active.

Not as I read it:
<snip>

    RECEIVE LIST
            SELECT( ...
              )               /* (End of Selection List.)          */
            FROMNTS( 'ELS73.gimzip'
                     CLIENT( SMPCLNT )    /* */
GIM20301S ** THERE IS A SYNTAX ERROR IN THE COMMAND AT COLUMN 21.
                   )
Does the same apply to GIMZIP/GIMUNZIP.

My apologies, I was mistaken. While I knew you could not specify CLIENT on the RECEIVE FROMNTS command, I thought SMP/E implicitly picked up CLIENT information from the SMPCLNT ddname. But alas, it does not. Nor does GIMZIP or GIMUNZIP. Sorry for the misdirection.
