I'd aim for CFLEVEL 17 anyway - on a z196. I can't imagine problems being
fixed with alacrity with a lower level - but that's not a definitive
support statement.

Now, an interesting question is how one upgrades CFCC. A while back I got
the impression it got easier.

Cheers, Martin

Shows Level 17 for your z196 (the webpage has a good chart)

The CF level is related to the machine not necessarily the operating
system.

From what I have read you can only run CFCC 17 on a z196.

If you were running a ec12 you could run CFCC 18 or 19.

You could open a case with IBM or contact your IBM Rep for help on this
issue. You probably need to see if z/OS V2.1 can run on the z196 and if
so, what hardware/software related fixes need to be included to do that.
They can confirm what you need for your hardware/software configuration.

Once you have a specific level of CF then you could see what PTFs are
needed to support that level with FIXCAT.

Therefore if you are at CFCC Level 17 - run an SMP/E FIXCAT for that
against your SMP/E CSI can see what fixes you need to support z/OS V2.1.

A few more searches on www.ibm.com for
z/OS V2R1 z196 provided

CFCC Level 17. If you are moving your coupling facilities and the coupling
facility structures will be on higher CFCC levels than they were
previously, run the Coupling Facility Structure Sizer (CFSIZER) tool to
find out if you have to increase coupling facility structure sizes.
zEnterprise servers initially shipped with CFCC Level 17. Prepare to
make the necessary changes as indicated by the tool. You can find the
CFSIZER tool at Coupling Facility sizer.
Note: The PTFs to support CFCC Level 17 have coexistence (or sysplex
preconditioning) PTFs that require installation throughout your sysplex
before implementing CFCC Level 17.
