The technical owner of the function was out of the office, but on his
return he said of this product:
"It's mainly hardware i/o errors for DASD and legacy tape drives, plus
software inventory and allowing customers to request Hiper/PE report and
PTFs for selected SMP/E zones. That they can get using SMP/E functions,
or Shop z service options."
I think EREP, z/OSMF Software Management, SMP/E reports, RECEIVE ORDER,
and Shopz likely replace all of these things effectively. And, like
Service Agent, "the price is right," as all are base z/OS functions in
z/OS V2.2 and (for z/OSMF) available at no additional charge for z/OS
V1.13 and z/OS V2.1.
I hope you agree that you don't need it any more!

Good Question!
I do not have a good answer. I have assumed it was is use for additional "phone
home" capability/information.

I received a notice that the product IBM Electronic Service Agent 1.2
(5655-F17) is being discontinued September 30th, 2016. I went looking for
replacement information and found a webpage that had no replacement indicated
under a column of that heading.
Is there some other product that I should have to provide its functionality in
lieu of a replacement? At least they are giving plenty of lead time to resolve
this.
What are you using it for?
