Here are some other random bits of advice, in no particular order: 1. You're welcome to try IBM's Developer Kit for Linux, Java Edition Version 8 on your machine once you get Linux up and running, but the documentation indicates that Version 8 supports z9 machines and newer. Version 7 of IBM's SDK may be the best you can do. Both versions are available for download here:
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/linux/download.html 2. You can get WebSphere Application Server for Developers (including WebSphere Liberty Profile) here: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/wasdevelopers/ This edition is a non-production license for developers. The current release should work on your machine. 3. You could check to see if the MUSIC/SP operating system is available to run on your z890. Version 6.1 and any later releases, if available, are ESA/390 compatible and thus should be compatible with the z890. You could try this Web page for contact information: http://www.canpub.com/teammpg/ Dave Edwards has passed away from what I heard, but you can try contacting Roy Miller. The latest MUSIC/SP release appears to be 6.2B Update 4. MUSIC/SP appears to be copyrighted but available for demonstration purposes, though obviously I would confirm that (or not) with Roy. Ideally you'd run MUSIC/SP under z/VM (with suitable licenses). z/VM might be optional, however. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy Sipples IT Architect Executive, Industry Solutions, IBM z Systems, AP/GCG/MEA E-Mail: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
