If you are running *programs compiled with V3 or V4* (and are not in the
mood to recompile them on V5).

It is essentially an alternative to V5 (although I suspect IBM would not be
happy with that statement).

If you are running Cobol V5 - my understanding based on the literature, you
do not need ABO.  Only if you are running V3 or V4 would you might consider
this process.  It is to help shops not ready to go to Cobol V5.
