That is something I wondered after studying the DFSORT tuning pages. There is however a significant difference between dataspaces and hiperspaces. Data in dataspaces is directly addressable, data in hiperspace must be copied (causing overhead) to the user's address space to be addressable. DFSORT uses 64-bit storage in the same 2 different modes. However DFSORT says it always decides which storage to use, based on the current status of the system. Apparently there are parameters that can value each of the 4 storage locations above the others in certain situations.
Maybe the DFSORT people can elaborate on these situations and decisions.
