Ours of more modern and not as dramatic. Early 2000s. UPS caught fire at the beginning of summer. We spent all summer without a UPS and frequent visits by electricians installing new equipment. For a while, it seems like all they had to do was open a panel and power would drop to the server room.
Thing is, we had a z800 at the time. There was an extra switch that needed to be turned back on, then we just POR'd and IPL'd. Downtime usually under half an hour for the mainframe. I think after several incidents, IBM did replace one or more power supplies. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
