Had a break waiting for a Job to run so looked it up. It is 65536, not 39**2, because you can code "special characters" in quotes. The ability to specify the delimiters in printable hexadecimal rather than as actual non-printable values would be a nice-to-have.
Longer would certainly be an improvement. It's more like 39**2 than 65535, right? Only uppercase alphamerics? Agreed. JCL is kind of sad in many areas where it surely would not take a lot of resources to relieve some constraints (such as this one). The ability to specify hex (non-alphameric) DLM= values would improve things considerably here, with nada in the way of upward compatibility issues. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
