File transfer speeds start slow then speed up. 1.2KB is nothing. 100KB is a bare minimum test size, but can fluctuate greatly due to varying contention at the start of transfer even under similar network loads. 1MB is large enough that a slow start has a small impact on the total transfer time under similar network loads.
