My apologies to Russell. OPTCD=B does indeed work as he described both for IEBGENER and COBOL. We have SYNCSORT here and IEBGENER is renamed to OLDGENER. SYNCSORT uses EXCP IO and OPTCD is for QSAM BSAM BDAM only. Would still love to see a COBOL SUL routine but we are no longer desperate for a workaround. My associate was unaware - I knew better.
