Concatenating 255 members in a 14553-character ALLOCATE command succeeds; takes 22 seconds; 256 exceeds an allocation limit. I see no practical limit to command length. Terminal windows impose their own limits, sometimes of necessity, sometimes frivolously. (No need for LISTDS; ALLOCATE doesn't require members to exist.) I don't consider this thread severely hijacked. For a Friday.
