IBM is right. Ask your friend HOW did he got it working? We have also a similar setup with 2 GRS environments. We have ONE shared user catalog (with a few HLQ) used in both Prod and Sandbox SysPlex. DASD are shared in all LPARs and nothing (Master Catalog, HSM, JES2, RACF, SMS, XCF, etc.) else are shared across SysPlexes. With one caveat - datasets accesses are NONE/READ/UPDATE in one SysPlex and ALTER in another. Definitively NOT ALTER on both Sysplexes, because you will get messy messages when trying to move datasets from the 'wrong' SysPlex. Try HSM Recall from the 'wrong' SysPlex and watch the fun messages coming ... HTH!
