I've never reported a real h/w problem via SR, but when I open one, I can select s/w or h/w as problem type. I bounced thru a few screens for a mythical DS8800. It prompted for geographic location, machine type, serial no. etc.
Do you not see this option, or does the process fail for you? . . .
