From a presentation: The IBM z13 continues to support the z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) which can take advantage of the optional simultaneous multithreading (SMT) technology capability. SMT allows up to two active instruction streams per core, each dynamically sharing the core's execution resources.
z13 hardware supports SMT on all PU types but, on normal CPs, z/OS chooses to dispatch to thread zero only due to chargeback issues.
