It start with the dumb system being able to accept the system date in people friendly mm/dd/yy format (presumably now mm/dd/yyyy format) while the expensive operating system required yy.ddd, year day-of-year. The dumb system can handle FBA devices. I am certain z/VSE users and those who have converted can come up with other examples.
