I suppose this is somehow the motivation for ISRSUPC UPDMVS8's failing
if the NEW comparand lacks valid line numbers whereas UPDCMS8
requires them only on OLD.  If I need to create IEBUPDTE control I
use UPDCMS8 and a Rexx filter to convert to IEBUPDTE SYSIN.

Really, UPDMVS8 ought just to issue a warning to SYSTERM and continue
with RC=4 when NEW lacks numbers.

I've submitted a couple SRs on UPDMVS8, beyond that documented
restriction.  At one point, the developer, (redacted), complained that
he loathed implementing/supporting UPDMVS8.
