IIRC, every volume initialized by ICKDSF--is there any other way?--will contain code in the IPLTEXT area that loads a wait state 00F, which says that no IPL text exists, unless that area has been rewritten with true IPL text. So you might write a program that looks for the 00F wait state code and infer that otherwise it has actual IPL text. You work for the guvment, right?
