I mean the tape catalog that is needed for using an automated tape library in SMS and OAM, in my case a TS7760. The manual I am using is called z/S v2.2 DFSMS OAM Planning, Installation, and Storage Administration Guide for Tape Libraries. Gadi

If that is the system you will be using, the Global VCAT is just a VSAM dataset that you can define in any catalog (and on any volume) you choose. You just need to insure that the HLQ of the Global VCAT's DSN relates to the catalog you want.
