Not knowing your shop, have you checked to see if you already have tools that will do this?
For example, if you want a WTO to indicate a job has done something, if you have automation tools (like CA OPS/MVS) or a scheduler tool (like IBM Tivoli Scheduler) then they may already be able to provide this function. Since you only asked the basic question, you may not get a solution that will fit your environment. If you do not have tools, then the solutions offered could work. However, if you do have tools, it might be easier to engage your system programmers to see what solutions to do what you want are available. Or provide more details on what problem you are trying to solve, and you may get better answers.
