This might be old news and fixed (or documented?) but I remember that ADRDSSU dump of a full volume turned off the DSCB change bits *IN THE DUMP*.
So you have a slightly bad/failing disk. You dump it to tape. IBM replaces the HDA. You restore the tape image to the new disk. Then you toss the tape... NO, you just lost information...
