The requirement is in MVS; XMIT/RECEIVE doesn't add it and AFAIK zip doesn't 
eliminate it.

I see the requirement for "correct DCB information" as a weakness rather
than a strength.  z/OS UNIX files are more robust in imposing no such
constraint.

How does CBTTAPE package UNIX files, targeted either for z/OS UNIX or
for desktop ancillary functions?
