The IBM 2321 was also (affectionately?) known as the "noodle snatcher". A redesign in the S/370 generation produced the 3850 "drum storage" device. Same basic concept w/drums instead of mag strips.
The 3850 (as well as the 2321) were both know for mangling the "back end" storage media.
