Because I've seen too many bugs due to them and spend too much time dealing 
with them. Real data often contains nulls, and things breaking randomly just 
because some data contained an unexpected null is just bad in my experience 
(and thus opinion).

 

It reminds me of case sensitivity: people in some environments are used to it, 
but I'm unconvinced of the utility.

 

I think we've discussed case sensitivity before, too :)
