Is it really true that *all* the PL/X source is retained as comments in
the assembler source listing?

The "listing" was not mentioned. The reference was to the source. These 
"bilingual macros" have both the assembler and PL/x data. The assembler is 
comments to the PL/x. The PL/x is comments to the assembler.   Most of the 
PL/x follows the MEND so will not be in a listing (unless you do a 
"COPY").
