Ruby useful in its niches.

So is 360 Assembler to this day, and RPG, and REXX ...

They're just not growing mindshare.

Python is still growing mindshare, and it's more generally useful than Ruby, which since 2006 has been focused on web services.

Legacy systems programmers learning Python in IBM *nix environments (IBM i Pase & z/OS USS) is, in the immortal words of Joe Biden, a BFD :)
