Hi Dave. Basic mode is disappearing. Disappeared with the new zxx90 box and
the z9. I believe this is so because IBM can then us LPAR as a buffer
between hardware and s/390 software code. Changing the hardware, may now
only require changes to the LPAR code and no changes to the s/390 code.
Faster rollout of new hardware with no code changes to VM, VSE and OS/3390.
In any event, here is my first LPAR IOCDS. There is also a good RED book on
the z800 which I suggest you download.

Hello list,
Being a VMer from way back, I have always managed not to have to use
LPARs, ever!
Now I'm faced with a particular dilema. I wan't to add a couple of IFLs
to my z800, but as I understand it, these IFLs will have to exist in
their own separate LPAR away from my two regular CPs. It will also
require me to run a second zVM in the new LPAR.
If that is correct, I can accept it. I was wondering if anyone has a
short, simple and sweet IOCP that I can look at that could possibly be
similiar to what I'm mentioning. Two LPARS, one with the regular CPs,
the other with the IFLs. Examples of how to share the DASD and OSA
would be apprectiated. Will I need a second control unit for the second
VM console?
Hopefully, the list can get me "jump started".
