Thanks all. Very helpful. From the last few messages I (think I) can conclude that since VM here is used for Linux only, then FULL IPLs would be "required" for maintenance t o CP only. The few "supporting" CMS-type guests could be managed easily wi th a simple cycle of each.
But, the point about performing a FULL IPL to ensure it still "works" is well understood. Personally, I would do a FULL IPL even if maintenance only hit PIPE. :-) But, we keeping it up ALAP is a strong requirement from the bosses. So, thanks to all. Leland
