It is. It's exactly the kind of thing that Linux on zSeries appliances
were meant to do. Also read up on Communications Controller for Linux,
which is pretty much a direct 3745 emulator -- you can run your existing
NCPs on it and it pretty much drops into the same spot in the network as
the 3745s did (with a bit of bother wrt to getting serial ports
redirected from external routers via DLSw, etc). 

Both are bears to implement, but they're involved in SNA networking --
did you expect anything else?
