Ian, If you license CA's VM:Spool ... you also get CA's V/SegPlus the "free feature" of VM:Spool. It has a much more user friendly adaptable interface for browsing spool files, either open or closed. As you suggest, if you choose to write your own interface, it has routines that can be called from REXX and or XEDIT to retrieve the data for formatting.
