I don't think you will find that kind of information the way you want it. There are installations that run hundreds of Linux servers on a single z/VM LPAR. Not everyone wants to share that information because it is a vital part of their business model and gives them a competitive advantage. Any maximum really depends on the workload in the virtual servers, the total capacity of your z/VM system and configuration and tuning of Linux and z/VM. There are many qualitative recommendations (like small virtual machines and VDISK for swapping) that may get you started. But for optimal configuration you need to evaluate the performance monitor data and adjust your configuration. And you keep on doing that while your workload changes over time. The G5 is probably not a wise platform to start doing Linux on z/VM because the CPU is slow and no supported level of z/VM runs on it.
