You can format your dasd on most dasd subsystems to FBA. That addresses most of the problem. However, VSAM still has a concept with FBA of Min-CA and Max-CA. That is the conversion headache when migrating from one FBA device type to another.
I would first check to see if your current dasd subsystem can be formatted to emulate FBA. Second, see what FBA device types your dasd subsystem can emulate. If it can emulate the same min-CA/max-CA as a 9345, very easy conversion. In either way, a FBA to CKD(3390) conversion would be near the bottom on my list. VM Magic is being used to emulate 9345 dasd. There are applications that have device type coded in programs which would make conversion to 3390 difficult. Does the list have any suggestions on what we can do ? Thanks in advance Graeme Moss
