When you specify the RDEV option with a GROUP, the VSWITCH will failover 
the port group to the OSA specified on the RDEV. The issue is one of 
bandwidth.  Depending on how big the port group was an its utilization, 
the single OSA may not be able to handle it.  Once you reach that point, 
you need to invest in the VSS 1440 technology. 

Anyone planning new switch purchases or upgrades should seriously look at 
this capability in the 6500 series.

You are correct that CP does not virtualize link aggregation (LACP) on 
virtual NICs.
