Actually, the original post did say z/Linux.

Well, did he ever say if he meant z/OS UNIX (his ISHELL
reference) or z/Linux? There are going to be differences!! z/Linux is
usually BASH. z/OS UNIX is usually Korn-like.

In either case, THIS IS THE WRONG FORUM! If z/OS UNIX, then the
proper forum is MVS-OE. If z/Linux, the proper forum is LINUX-390.

For Bash, he could try: http://steve-parker.org/sh/sh.shtml

        for z/OS (Korn), maybe:
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~rc/classes/ksh/print_pages.shtml

or he can use a search engine with the search argument: "+unix
+shell +script"

The "standard" shell on z/OS UNIX is /bin/sh
which is basically the Korn
shell. There is a port (old) of Bash which can
be downloaded. z/OS also
comes with a version of tcsh. There may be other
shells as well.

blessed question.

There are a million books on shell scripting. I
recommend Classic Shell Scripting
