My management read about 'unattended operations' and decided to improve on it. They had us prepare the systems for 'unoperated attendance'. We have 'operators' who don't even like listening for the special beeps from important error messages. The only real thing they do with z/VM is initiate the ejection of tapes from our ATL destined for the off-site vaulting. The only reason that isn't automated is because they could not remember why tapes were sitting in the open ATL door when they came in on Monday. So the tape movement from ATL to offsite to extra vault to ATL is operator initiated.

So, my RACF question and all the answers y'all gave made me think of another...

What do your operators do within z/VM?

The reason I ask is because we haven't given our operations staff access to any
of our z/VMs. What am I missing? Why do they need access? What should they
be doing and aren't?

(Mind you, we are zLinux only.)
