30 years ago or so, building cleaning people would do their once a week
vacuuming of the carpeted floor time in the major walk ways of the
computer room. They discovered how convenient it was to plug a vacuum
into the convenience outlet of a 2803 tape control unit. The poorly
grounded vacuum caused problems.
Another problem we had which was happened when the building cleaning
people would damp map the computer room was that we would get machine
checks on a 3084. At first we didn't make a connection, but then we
noticed that they only occurred at night when the cleaning people were
damp mopping the floor. Turns out there was a missing ground wire on
the 3084. Actually not missing but certainly not connected to ground.

Were they buffing the floor? I've heard of that happening before. We
don't allow ANYBODY in the machine room without a chaperone!
