Others have explained about CP Owned versus ATTACH TO SYSTEM volumes. The
re are also user 
volumes that are dedicated to a specific user. These are dedicated by DED
ICATE in the user 
directory or ATTACH to user. They don't have minidisks. (Well, if they ar
e dedicated to a VM guest, 
they can have minidisks at the guest level, but the top level VM does not
 use them for minidisks.)

We use them mostly for z/OS guests.
