a) regarding DMSPLU, I have an exec named SETDATI which embeds DMSPLU. IIRC, it was based on an ancient EXECSERV function. My exec supports ! (exclamation point) instead of / (slash) as the date delimiter, allowing me to use it from Filelist.
b) when I am unsure if a 'new' VMARC is different from the one I have, I usually run a simple COMPARE. Only if they show up as different do I actually compare the files and dates in them, by dumping each to a different tdisk or sfs dir. I have an MDSKCMPR exec that will compare all the files on two supplied filemodes, giving 4 outputs: equal files, unequal, only found on first, only on second.
