True, and it usually is elsewhere on disks formatted for other operating systems. For a long while, the TPF disks used to have the last tracks on the disk contain the VTOC. There were F1 DSCBs for each extent containing like-sized records. I was speaking in terms of a CP format disk. And as someone, Alan I believe, pointed out, my memory was a bit fuzzy. The allocation map precedes the VTOC on them.
