I started this thread because I wanted to get the List's thought/opinion on the 
risk.  I felt it was low to none and higher on not doing it.  Oh well it is all 
behind me now I was "allowed" to do it this weekend and guess what, it took 
less than 2 minutes ('cause I can't type) and it was successful.  Anyway good 
discussions and THANK YOU to all who contributed.

True, and it usually is elsewhere on disks formatted for other operating 
systems. For a long while, the TPF disks used to have the last tracks on the 
disk contain the VTOC. There were F1 DSCBs for each extent containing 
like-sized records. I was speaking in terms of a CP format disk. And as 
someone, Alan I believe, pointed out, my memory was a bit fuzzy. The allocation 
map precedes the VTOC on them.
