I just had this experience. on my CMS session, I did 'Q IUCV GUESTX' where GUESTX is a VSE guest.
LO and behold. y screen "clocked" then the whole zVM system came down crashing and gave some of the symptoms of some class A user typing SHUTDOWN. I was able to find out that the system halted by checking the HMC. No where else was a sign. I have FAQS/ASO on that guest which uses IUCV to communicate?? These is an APAR concerning that. ZVM is 5.3 and the guest is zVSE 4.1.
