Hi Mike, I reckon you've got the bases pretty-well covered - especially if you have image-copy backups taken while the system was down and which can, if necessary be restored with the (still) down.
CP won't notice that the volumes have been relabelled unless / until they're taken offline - which is, of course, not your intent, but DIRECTXA will notice because it runs as a CMS command and will be checking the volser on the target minidisk in real time. So ... don't forget to update the volser at the beginning of the directory and run the DIRECTXA as the very, very last step immediately prior to the SHUTDOWN. Assuming that you can get at the volumes from an alternative VM system (I can never understand people who have only one VM system per LPAR) it's also worth having a copy of the directory source on the, "alternative" system - that way, if it all goes wrong, you can use DEFINE MDISK to get at any bits that need fixing.
