I have had a TN3270 session connect in linemode a few times. A reconnect fixes it. It's never been repeatable, so neither has it been debuggable. You would need to see the telnet negotiation to understand the failure. A LAN sniffer trace would be best since they can be quickly analyzed by Wireshark, et. al.
