Hello Jim, Earlier versions of the SSL server required Port 9999 defined for accepting administrative commands, but SSL for z/VM 5.4 does not make use of this port. So, if you are running 5.4, you should be able to remove this definition from the PORT statement without moving the bubble elsewhere under the carpet.

This message is in our SSLSERV start up console log and its not in the
manual:
MSG FROM TCPIP : Restarting you because you have no passive open on TCP
port 9999
The following line is present in the TCPIP TCPIP file used to startup the
TCPIP service machine and is in the port reservation section:
9999 TCP SSLSERV ; SSL Server – Administration
I didn’t set this stuff up and I cannot locate anything saying the SSLSERV
service machine needs an admin port defined.
Can I remove it without breaking something else?
