Here are previously mentioned (April 2007) steps to add a page volume (add
a page DASD) to a running z/VM system:
1) Run CPFMTXA, marking cylinder zero as PERM, and CYLS 1-end as PAGE
a. There have been long discussions of cyl 0 as PERM, but it's
considered an inexpensive "best practice".
b. You can use ICKDSF, but CPFMTXA calls ICKDSF under the covers and
ensures that all the
z/VM-related parms are entered properly to prevent problems later.
2) Update USER DIRECT to add volumes to USER $PAGE$
(or using an alternative convention to prevent MDISK allocation on the
page volumes)
3) Update SYSTEM CONFIG file with new CP OWNED slots and volumes
4) CP DEFINE CPOWNED Slot nnn volser
5) CP ATTACH rdev to SYSTEM as volser
6) CP START DASD rdev ALL
or: CP START VOLid volser ALL
7) CP QUERY ALLOC PAGE

Subject
Adding a Page Volume to a Running z/VM System.
At the risk of sounding stupid, what are the commands to mount another
page volume to a running z/VM system.
Do I need to first add these volumes to the System Config fie?
Thanks
