Billy,
Here is a link to the original cookbook approach to implementing the
VSwitch. It's pretty old by now, but still a good reference:

Also take a look at the Virtualization Cookbooks (a recent link was
posted here not too long ago), and the "Getting Started with Linux and
z/VM" book that is on the z/VM library.
I prefer to hook TCP/IP up to the VSwitch, especially if the VSwitch is
set up for failover. That way TCP/IP for z/VM participates automatically.
The VSwitch presents to the virtual machine a virtual OSA Express
device, so if you have an OSA defined to TCP/IP you may not need to
change anything (except maybe the PORTNAME). Set up the NICDEF with the
device address that TCP/IP is looking for and remove the OSA attaches in
DTCPARMS.

Hello all,
Risking the old saying that it's better to have someone think you're
stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt... but :)
I'm confused about Vswitches on z/VM... sorta. I know you define the
Vswitch in the System Config file, but does the TCPIP guest running on
z/VM also use that Vswitch or does TCP/IP use it's own OSA connection
and other Liniux guests (In this case) use the Vswitch? Is there a
'cookbook' available for setting up Vswitches?
Any hints and tips appreciated.
