Richard, QUERY TAPE DETAILS will tell if a drive is in an IBM library. I'm not sure if it can tell the difference between a virtual and physical drive. We don't have any physical drives in IBM libraries on VM. Here are the responses from a physical drive in an STK silo followed by an IBM VTS drive:
